The Cell Barnes Youth Project (CBYP) was set up in 2001 to address some of the
issues concerning anti-social behaviour around the Cell Barnes area, (Ashley
and Cunningham Wards). The problems had been highlighted at a public meeting
attended by various members of the community, local and county councillors as
well as Kerry Pollard then M.P for St Albans.
The aim of the project is two fold: to improve the facilities for young people
in our local area and to provide activities where some of the ‘issues of
concern’ can be addressed in a non-threatening way, through a hobby or interest
that the young people have.
Since the Project was set up we have worked with SADC to provide football
areas/posts and benches on fields where the young people meet. We have also run
various activities for young people, including DJ workshops, Computer
Information evenings, Girls Nites and several successful ‘On 2 Wheels’
Projects.
CBYP has worked closely with St Albans Leisure and the Local Network Fund to
provide the basket ball post and playing surface on Foxcroft open space.
Our current Management Team consists of representatives from SADC, Herts CC,
local Churches, Scout Groups, Community Police Officers, Youth Workers, local
Residents Associations and Neighbourhood Watch Groups.
